naive design board
The theory of evolution started with Charles Darwin, specifically on the Galapagos Islands, studying finches that had evolved differently on separate islands. I used this as my inspiration for my boards. My frames depict a learning video for children in a naive style to connect with them as they learn about evolution. I start with an epic frame of the tree-the finches home, and then panning up to discover the differences between these birds.
Inspired by Folk Art, particularly Mexican folk art, I used a lot of detail and varying line widths. Starting with blind contour to loosen up my drawings and make them more childlike, then using those as inspiration, drew new birds, and outlined and originally colored them in Illustrator. Although vectorized, I still wanted these to not have a "perfect" aesthetic, so I hand drew all of the lines, only copying and pasting to make the images symmetrical. I went with the watercolor texture to showcase the line quality of this piece.
