DESIRE
composited title sequence
This is a title sequence for an imaginary movie based on a very real serial killer, Henri Désiré Landru. Our theme for the title sequence is based on his victims and the morbid beauty they possess from being murdered. Comparing life and death, gorgeous women as life, and cold, hard, gold elements as death, the sequence shows the transition to fatality. The women in these images are sensual in order to contrast his false intentions of lust with his true motives of fraud and murder. This contrast also conveys his desire not only for the beautiful women but the intimate moment of taking their lives. The use of gold represents the value he placed on his victim’s money for his own pleasure, power, and wealth. The constant presence of death in the sequence provides a mysterious foreshadowing of an inevitable end to these women.
In order to make this sequence, we first took green screen footage of hands and sensual poses of women then composited in golden 3D elements. Finally, we used color correction, editing, and sound to bring the whole piece together.
